Book of Rajab (Arabic Edition)

200

The Book of Rajab is a collection of eight short stories and flash-fiction pieces offering a window to an alternative Jeddah. The stories all take place in a day, the first of Rajab to be exact, which happen to both be the half point to the Hijri year and the official birthdate of the vast majority of Saudis born before the establishment of the Civil Affairs Office in 1395 Hijri (1975 AD).

From sunrise to sunrise, the stories come together to explore what it means to cherish generational heirlooms in the ever-changing city, touching upon themes of grief, memory, craft, food, and migration. This work is narrated through the voice of a jahanammiyya flower, blending whimsical storytelling with layered visuals, and giving life to the tales that make up the city.
